Autumn

falling leaves drifting down

colours of rust passing by

days grow short

nights become cold

winters song is calling

tis the season of life

for remembering, reflecting

taking pleasure in past abundance

a time of rest, as life wanes

or so it should be

branches are bare and twisted

pain etched across the bark

a new beauty emerges

in the quiet, new portals open

new journeys await

upon this threshold we stand

harvesting what’s left of life

and the fruits born overtime

hoping this elixir will suffice

to sustain the last leg of our journey

autumn leaves

Shattered and Drawn

love gone to waste

lost never to be replaced

myriad shattered reflections

broken and lost connections

ice bullets, cutting straight and true

turning all my tears to blue

strewn with guilt

enfolding me with its emotional quilt

that jig-saw visage

reflecting through the passage

of a shattered past

stares back as one outcast

futility of anguished tears

failing to wash away the fears

leaving in its wake

one battered, bruised

shattered and drawn

New Seasons

the shadow of beauty is regret

as we lose today

we gain tomorrow

for in sleep

we break the chains

that bind us to yesterday

we awaken unbound and unfettered

to our winter past

emerging into a new spring

bursting to blossom

This Past Week in the DRC

Flying in to work ….. Big Blue Sky …love it …

Sun Sets and rises …and a cloudy moon … love the colours of Africa

Out and about and relaxing after a days work….

My Poetry is …..

neither a shout

nor a scream

not a whimper

or a whisper

….....

but an eruption

of emotion

from within

….......

once released

it plots its own path

and passion

towards darkness

or light
...

Eclipsing Life

eclipses of life

dramatic chaotic tempestuous moments

barely noticeable subtle changes

rolling storm clouds gather ahead

and then, we awaken in a sea of fog

in the penumbra we patiently wait

structural integrity retained

 loss of function noted

salvaging what we can

slowly our faculties improve

healing slowly commences

the gray fades to light

the darkened hypoxic veil lifts

returning senses, inducing pain

bringing clarity to intermediate minds

……..

Subterranean Lullaby

pitter patter of tiny feet

rat-a-tat of bullets ripping sheets

orange spears of flickering candles

casting opaque shadows on strips of flannel

digging deeper, ripping up the dirt

slowly covering holes in the shirt

the man in the long black coat

stands unsteadily at the edge of the moat

doing his best not to gloat

as the sand, cascades down all around the sacrificial goat

as its ripped bleeding throat

drains over the distended belly, as it bloats

swallowed up consumed by this world

in the belly of the beast all curled

buried in the grave, six feet under

as the veil is rent asunder

silver coins glinting on the eyes, all bright

weeping silver teardrops, in the watery moonlight

A New Writing Adventure Begins …

I am embarking on another new and exciting writing adventure. I will now be writing for Listening Through The Lens – a music site designed to promote and support roots music and performers – anything alt. country, bluegrass, soul, funk, gospel, Americana, folk or blues.

My first article will be posted this week and I will be sent (on an ongoing basis) new music to listen to and then review, how cool is that … The first review will be live by mid August, so settle back and enjoy this new journey in my ongoing quest … to just write.
