A question to comment or ponder on:
How does one engender empathy (and hope) in ones darkest hour? Do we/can we do it (engender empathy) because life is fundamentally amazing, even though (or because), is spite of it all, it has an ending?

An EMS colleague of mine posted this picture the other day ….
All I can can say … is that losing a patient takes away apart of you, you can never get back. I wrote an article on this entitled:
For those who ask this question, to those of us who work in EMS … take a read … and ponder awhile, at the of the cost of care. To my colleagues who keep going back to do the same … thank you ….

daily struggle of avoidance under the radar over the hedge silence, solitude disappearing into other worlds whilst mired in this one fast approaching fears decisions pending conscience or crowd object or be subjected fight or flight kill, heal, pray dream within a dream hoping it never ends but oh to soon boys become men awake, breathing, still dreaming failing dreaming of a hope once virtuous now lost seeking, searching always asking but why? why me? ah yes becoming me never ends why should it?

Been thinking a lot of late about the cost of service, the sacrifice, be it medical, fire, police and military. Read a few clinical articles in the week in JEMS, on PTSD and how services don’t deal with it, and reread an article I wrote awhile back and the article I quoted.
the price you pay come so far waited so long worked so hard only to be in a dream heaven or hell it always changes dark holds the light at bay the more you give the more they take the more they live the more you die stand firm fight for the price you've paid pay in blood sometimes your own some cease feeling for themselves or others teases and the doubts solved by being uncomfortably numb made it back home but how? checking out is possible but you can never leave you can't walk away from the price you pay nothing more wretched than what must be endured been through hell is it all worth it?
