Alive, but?

duty calls

conflicting with the heart

which is more important

what do we know?

does not knowing

burden the weary traveller

sadness presses down

but we are alive

beaten down

by the weight of fate

alone we stand

shoulder to shoulder

how cautious can we be?

stand up and be free

whilst continuously

coming up for air

#micropoetry No. 10

Continuing the challenge to keep writing poems of 144 characters or less. Here are a few more #micropoems. Poetry for twitter

1.

fact becomes fiction

reality becomes life

alternate is the new the norm

drink and feast

for tomorrow you die

2.

travelling into my space

the road less travelled

 dipping in and out

just visiting

a scary process

discovering what lies beneath

at my place

3.

poets, dreamers & writers

who do you talk to

and where do you go?

to those who live in

strange places

dead spaces

and

dream places?

Defining Self

the present is a construct of the past

every breath we have taken

is the sum of who we are

that past we remember

does it affect our present?

does forgetting cleanse our slate?

are we bound by the rattling cold chains

that bind us to as distant memory?

does time eventually conquer us?

are we only doomed to repeat history

if we remember it?

the constant past that never leaves

is it a blessing or a curse?

do moments give birth to new moments?

or are they transformed

into the next state of flux

that clean slate of the now

is ready

redefine the now

using yesterday’s palette

paint a new tomorrow

Certainty

inspiration, that which

born from not knowing

drives us to discover

to tackle the uncertain

in the hope that certainty arrives

grasping at the uncertainty of life

pushes us to embrace that continuum

of not knowing

if or when certainty will arrive

but arrive it will

turning the unknown

into the known

that empty canvas

into the most majestic sunrise

on a glorious new day

flush with new discoveries

Mist of War

red mist glazes over

it’s to dark to see

the eyes glaze over

into that 1000 yard stare

darkness draws nigh

the veil is torn

the pathway opens

yes, I have seen the world

but not sure which

darkness draws nigh

I am coming

not one second to soon

as the tragedy

of history repeats itself

The One Constant

time spent apart

is lost in life’s forgotten mist

never to be recovered

lost but not forgotten

distance ….

makes the heart grow distant

bridging the gap of miles

never comes easy

broken bridges, rebuilt over time

broken

memories need to be stronger

than any broken bridge

absence ….

makes the heart grow absent

times cloak of darkness

descends and masks

light, love and memories

build memories must be built to withstand

the storms of life

when miles come between

love

like time

is constant

Chasing the Gray

My 55th birthday poem, a present to myself …. you decide if it is inspiring or depressing ….♥

closer to the edge

day by day

I skirt the sepia

my darkness

my solitude

I’ll lock the door

block the door

maybe step outside

and change the world

welcome to my world

my inner eternal battles

where even blood is gray

when coagulated by time

hope pushes out fear

pain and despair

is it all in vain

as I chase the gray

Feeling Proud

Feeling very proud at present, I am embarking on another new writing adventure, I have been appointed as the Africa editor for the UK based EMS publication – Ambulance Today, circulation includes, Europe, Canada, the Pacific Rim and now Africa.

At Ambulance Today we are always looking to expand our ambulance news coverage to different parts of the globe, which is why we are proud to launch our new segment ‘From the Africa Desk’ and introduce our Africa Editor, Michael Emmerich.

The Africa Quarterly editorial, that I will be writing, will cover the main regions in Africa, with opinion pieces from various regional role players. Our focus will be on the key regions across the continent; East, West, Central, Sub Sahara and North Africa. I will explore key and relevant NGO’s and the vital role that they play in bringing medicine and emergency medicine to the continent. The first article will be in the Summer Edition (UK Summer), which is in the next week 🙂

To all the medical people who follow this page, if you have any ideas for special feature articles on ambulance care in any part of Africa drop me a mail. Equally, if you have any news items you would like  us to run either in our magazine or on our daily-updated global ambulance news website make contact.

To my fellow passionate EMS friends across the world, I trust you will walk this continent with me as we delve deeper into the respective regions in future articles. Till then be safe out there and stay passionate.

The Seduction Arcade

I wrote this poem last year… and at present, I am away from my love on an extended project, and I really miss her touch, smell, closeness… Nothing can beat the touch, caress and closeness of a loved one. Skype and Facetime cannot compete. Miss you my love ..

welcome back my friends to the show that never ends

the curve of your neck

the sound of your name

the arch of your back

and hints of flesh

the beat of your heart, the seduction arcade

the red of your heartbeat

the smell of the sheets

imprints in the bed

footprints in the sand

the beat of your heart, the seduction arcade

whispers in the air

the touch of your tongue

the heat of your skin

silk in your hair

the beat of your heart, the seduction arcade

water on your skin

lace across your body

leather and feathers

the textures arouse

the beat of your heart, the seduction arcade

the colours of lust

the setting sun

the eclipse of your heart

and tears on your cheeks

the beat of your heart, the seduction arcade

the rise of your breasts

the mist of your breath

like mist on the moors

it doesn’t have to make sense

still you turn me on

the beat of your heart, continues the seduction arcade

Engage to Change

no retreat

always engage

if not

what’s the point?

we all change the world

everyday

you must choose

construct or destruct

reject isolationism

embrace the world

engage if not change

all grains of sand have value

do right to them

while hanging in the balance

of the reality of life

when you turn and look back

what do you see?

what good am I

if I retreat from reality

ignoring your pain

turning my back while you die

what qualities do we espouse?

most of the time

some of the time
