The Mark of Cain

cain’s mark, an unstable man

groaning and shaking on the earth

unable to release his grasp

or be the man he could be

stains of the past

scar for life

as the past passes one by

if not for you, then who?

healing eases the pain

but memories remain

leaving scars

and crosses to bear

healing, forgiveness

remembrance or a warning

that mark comes with a great burden

and a sacrificial cost?

Write What Hurts….

If any of you gentle readers have read my last few poems … the quote below sums up the tone and content ….. and my current journey ….

write hard about what hurts 1

Thanks for staying with me on this part of life’s journey ….

Virginia Woolf Quote

Shared Burdens

battered and bruised

shattered and drawn

fading away

into the gray

dragged down

those deepest depths

the fear is real

sleep escapes

only but a heartbeat away

from what

I don’t know

headlong crashing into life

fading away from the blue

hearts are breaking

I can feel it, can you

let me carry your sorrows

let me shed tears for you

and

take them when they come

Tears

tears from above

go whence?

after they fall

tears of love, grief, joy

cutting paths

leaving scars

at journeys end

what becomes of them

do they remain?

as vessels filled

with pain and love

to heal or to harm?

either way

they have a story to tell

which must be heard
